This year was the 13th annual Island Marathon here on Prince of Wales. The kids all participated in one way or another. Oaks and Brit were part of a 15-person relay team (actually it was a 14-person team...Brit ran TWO legs of the relay). Brit was ON FIRE this day...not only did she run 2 "legs" on her own...she also ran two additional legs with some of the younger runners. We figure she ran about 7 miles this day! Oaks ran her leg, and then also ran the final leg with our youngest runner, as well! Kaiden and Hunter were part of a 4-person relay team. Hunter ran the first leg, which was 7.1 miles...and a good majority of those miles were a steady UPHILL!!! Kaiden was the finish runner for the relay team, running about 6.1 miles. He passed quite a few people on his run! I was so dang proud of ALL of my kids...they did this with NO training. I kept telling them that they NEEDED to get out and run BEFORE the actual race, but apparently they are JAMES' children...they can just up and ran at the drop of a hat!
Here's Oaks - such a cutie!!!
Oaks ALMOST ready to finish her 2.2 mile "leg" of the race.
Brit waiting patiently for her second "leg" of the race. I realized this was the ONLY picture I have of her during the race. I was still doing my half of the marathon while she was running her first leg...then I was dropping another student off at his leg when Brittany was running her second leg...and I was WITHOUT a camera while she was running with the younger students! Good thing I know a good counselor for when she needs therapy later in life!!! :)
Hunter going strong on his mostly UPHILL run!!!
Such a STUD!!!!
Kaiden - the finishing runner for his team!
RUN, Kaiden, RUN
One of the "aid stations" was offering face painting for the runners....Oaks took FULL ADVANTAGE!!!
Such a cute kid - even with a painted face!
What AWESOME kids!!!
Kind of a grainy picture...but, STILL awesome!!!
On a side note...I did mention above that I was in the middle of my half of the marathon during one of Brit's "legs." Yup, you read correctly...a friend from Coffman asked if I would be interested in walking one of the "legs" of her 4-person team. I thought, "sure, I could walk 6-7 miles." Then I thought, "hey, it would be even better if Carrie walked it with me." THEN we decided that we would go ahead and TWO legs together...SO, if you do the math (which I CAN, due to the fact that I married a math teacher) 2 legs of a 4 leg relay equals ONE HALF of a marathon...YUPPERS...we walked 13.1 miles! And, although I am alive to brag about it...it HAS taken me two days to be able to SIT and TYPE without the stiff/sore muscles spasming!!! :) It was a GREAT day and we can't wait to do it again...MAYBE we will even TRAIN for it next year....MAYBE!!!!
